The official website for Star Detective Precure! — the 23rd main entry in the long-running Precure franchise — announced on Friday that the series will cross over with the classic anime Ojamajo Doremi in its 39th episode, set to air on October 25. The announcement came alongside a collaboration visual and character artwork showing the Star Detectives dressed in Ojamajo Doremi-style witch apprentice costumes.
A Halloween Crossover Rooted in the Story’s Setting
The crossover episode carries a Halloween theme, with the Star Detectives donning the iconic witch apprentice outfits from Ojamajo Doremi. The tie-in feels particularly fitting given that Star Detective Precure! is set in 1999 — the very year the original Ojamajo Doremi anime first premiered in Japan.
About Ojamajo Doremi
The original Ojamajo Doremi series debuted in Japan in 1999. In 2005, 4Kids brought a heavily edited version of the show to American audiences under the title Magical DoReMi. To mark the franchise’s 20th anniversary, the theatrical anime film Looking for Magical DoReMi (Majo Minarai o Sagashite) was released in 2020 following a delay. The film went on to win the Best Animation Film award at the 75th Mainichi Film Awards in 2021.
About Star Detective Precure!
Star Detective Precure! premiered on February 1 on ABC TV, TV Asahi, and their affiliate channels at 8:30 a.m. JST. Crunchyroll is streaming the series across North America, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and CIS territories.
Story Synopsis
The anime follows Anna Akechi, a second-year middle school student living in Makoto Mirai Town. On her birthday, her “companion fairy” Pochitan appears and whisks her back in time from 2027 to 1999. There, Anna meets Mikuru Kobayashi, a fellow second-year student with dreams of becoming a great detective. When the two girls witness the chaos caused by the Phantom Thieves — criminals who steal people’s most treasured belongings — they transform into Precure detectives and use their powers of deductive reasoning to protect the smiles of those around them.
