The production team behind the second television anime season of The Detective Is Already Dead (Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru.) — based on the light novel series by Nigojū with illustrations by Umibōzu — has released the anime’s third promotional video, announced additional cast members, and confirmed an October 7 premiere date.

The season premieres on October 7 at 10:30 p.m. on Tokyo MX, with an early stream beginning at 10:00 p.m. on d Anime Store. The series will also air on AT-X and BS NTV, and stream on additional platforms.
Staff & Music
Manabu Kurihara returns to direct at studio ENGI, with Deko Akao again handling series scripts and Yōsuke Itō returning as character designer. 40mP is composing the score and has written, composed, and arranged both theme songs. Kōme performs the opening theme “Kono Shinzō ni Hanabata wo” (A Bouquet for This Heart), while Kagura Nana returns to sing the ending theme “Hakuchumu” (Daydreams).
About the Series
Season 2 was first announced in July 2022. The first season launched with a one-hour special in July 2021 and ran for 12 episodes. The story follows Kimihiko Kimizuka, a trouble-prone young man who becomes the assistant of globe-trotting detective Siesta. After years of solving mysteries and saving lives together, Siesta dies under mysterious circumstances — but her legacy continues to shape Kimihiko and those around him.
Nigojū published the first light novel volume under Kadokawa’s MF Bunko J imprint in November 2019, and the series won the 15th MF Bunko J Newcomer Award that same year. The 13th volume was published in July 2025. Yen Press publishes the novels in English.
A spinoff novel, Charlotte wa Tada, Jiken o Tokitai. Tantei wa Mō, Shindeiru. Code:RED by Hoko Hinachi and Minori Chigusa, launched in May 2024 with Nigojū credited as original author and supervisor. A manga adaptation by Mugiko ran in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Alive from May 2020 to October 2023, collected into six volumes.
