The official X/Twitter account for The One Piece — Wit Studio’s anime remake for Netflix — unveiled artwork from the series’ first episode during the Netflix Anime Studio Focus panel at the Annecy International Festival on Wednesday. The episode is titled “Romance Dawn.”
“Romance Dawn” is the name of the first chapter of the One Piece manga, and also the title of creator Eiichiro Oda‘s early one-shot stories that served as precursors to the long-running series.
The team confirmed that artwork from additional episodes will be revealed in the future. A teaser trailer for the anime was also scheduled to premiere the same day at 10:00 p.m. JST.
Staff
Masashi Koizuka (Attack on Titan, Moonrise) is directing the anime at Wit Studio, with Hideaki Abe (key animator on Detective Conan: The Scarlet Bullet, episode 5 of Suicide Squad ISEKAI) serving as assistant director.

Wit Studio’s Vision
In an interview in March, George Wada, President and CEO of Production I.G and President of Wit Studio, said the remake will feature tighter pacing with no unnecessary padding compared to Toei Animation’s original anime. He noted that Wit Studio aims to bring the same level of quality and directorial strength seen in its other titles — including Attack on Titan, Spy×Family, and Vinland Saga — all of which aired in late-night slots in Japan, as opposed to Toei’s version, which aired in a children’s Sunday morning timeslot. At the same time, Wada emphasized that the new anime will fully respect Toei Animation’s work.
Background
The One Piece remake was first announced at Jump Festa ’24 in December 2023. The announcement stated that the series would adapt the story “starting from” the East Blue Saga, hinting it could potentially cover more than just that arc, though nothing beyond that has been confirmed. The project was also announced as a commemoration of the anime’s 25th anniversary.
