Kadokawa began streaming the opening sequence for the upcoming film Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun: Ukkari Detekita Uchūjin o Sagase! (Space Academy: Find the Aliens Who Accidentally Came Out!) on Thursday. The film is based on Yūji Nishimura‘s web manga Uchū Nanchara Kotetsu-kun (Space Academy) and is scheduled to open in theaters on September 11.
Story
The film follows Kotetsu, a space pilot trainee who catches wind of a rumor about the possible existence of aliens and rallies the entire academy to track them down. The production blends anime animation with real footage of space, and the full voice cast from the television anime series will reprise their roles.
About the Manga and TV Anime
Nishimura launched the original web manga on August 6, 2019 — shortly after the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing — releasing new chapters every other Monday for free. The series follows the daily life of Kotetsu-kun, an aspiring astronaut, and his friends at the Animal Space Academy as they each chase their dreams.
The television anime adaptation premiered its first season on NHK Educational in April 2021, running through March 2022. A second season followed in April 2022 and concluded in February 2023.
