The live-action film WAN DANCE (ワンダンス), based on the manga by Kahee serialised in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon, has released a new set of scene photos featuring Itsukushima Iori, played by RAN of the group MAZZEL.
Iori: The Key Figure Behind the Battle
Itsukushima Iori is a ghost member of the dance club TEAM ON — rarely present, yet the first to recognise the raw talent of protagonist Kabo and encourage him to enter a dance battle. The newly released photos capture a range of moments: Iori listening to music alone on a university bench, his expression steeled before a battle, and a side-profile shot of the precise instant his body slides into movement. Together they convey both his effortless cool and the intense passion for music and dance that simmers beneath the surface.
Producer and RAN on the Casting
Producer Aoki explained the decision to cast RAN: “The street-culture atmosphere he naturally carries is not something you can manufacture through acting alone. Beyond lending credibility to the character of Iori, I felt he would raise the bar for the film as a work that genuinely deals with street dance.”
RAN, who was already a fan of the original manga, drew clear parallels between himself and the role: “Iori and I share a lot in common, including our dance backgrounds and our fundamental attitude toward dancing. He’s the type who surrenders to the music and moves naturally — that resonates with me deeply.” He also reflected on the creative process, saying, “The director respected the way I and Iori blended together, which allowed me to express the character in the way I envisioned.” RAN has been competing in dance battles since childhood, a background that makes his connection to Iori all the more authentic.
