The official website for the anime film We Are Aliens (Ware Ware wa Uchūjin), from director Kōhei Kadowaki and production company NOTHING NEW, released the film’s full trailer and a new visual on Monday. The trailer also announces two additional cast members and previews the film’s official theme song.
New Cast Members
Ten Yamasaki, a member of idol group Sakurazaka46, joins the cast as Konatsu, the classmate who lives closest to Tsubasa. Comedian Kemuri Matsui voices Batahara, Tsubasa’s friend.
Theme Song
The film’s theme song is titled “Sasakure” (Split), performed by adieu. A preview of the track can be heard in the newly released trailer.
Story
We Are Aliens follows Tsubasa and Gyōtarō, two boys who became close friends in elementary school, only to be driven apart by jealousy and misunderstandings. Years later, with both having taken very different paths in life, memories of the past resurface and force them to confront what happened between them.

Staff
Kōhei Kadowaki, known for creating the ending sequence of BEASTARS’ second season and music videos for YOASOBI, serves as planner, scriptwriter, director, storyboard artist, and editor. Music is composed by Yaffle, who has previously worked with Fujii Kaze and Kenshi Yonezu. The film is planned and produced by NOTHING NEW, with French studio Miyu Productions (Ghost Cat Anzu, A New Dawn) co-producing after joining the project in June 2025.
Release and Festival Screenings
The film opens in Japan on September 25. It previously screened in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, and competed at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival (June 21–27). Upcoming festival screenings include:

International Distribution
Sales company CHARADES is handling international sales. Regional distribution rights have been licensed to Hooray Films (Taiwan), Shaw Organisation (Singapore), Intercontinental Film Distributors (Hong Kong), and Sahamongkol Film (Thailand).
Crowdfunding
The production team launched a crowdfunding campaign on Motion Gallery in November, targeting 8 million yen (approx. US$50,365) to improve production quality and widen distribution. The campaign closed on March 2 having exceeded its goal, raising a total of 9,604,510 yen (approx. US$60,467).
NOTHING NEW is a small film company founded in 2022 with the stated aim of creating “a world where talent is not crushed.”
