The special exhibition 「劇場映画『ChaO』特別展示」 for the anime film ChaO (チャオ) officially opened to visitors from June 6 to July 31, 2026, on the B1 floor of Anime Tokyo Station in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Admission is free.
What Visitors Can See
The exhibition features many rare items and materials from the film’s production process, including:
- Panels explaining the work’s overview, including a list of awards ChaO has received
- Original animation drawings (生原画) from key scenes in the film
- Storyboards (絵コンテ), scripts, and character/background design materials
All visitors will also receive an official pamphlet as a special souvenir. The pamphlet can be compared with the displayed materials to gain a deeper understanding of the world of ChaO. However, quantities are limited, and distribution will end once supplies run out.
About the Film ChaO
ChaO is an original anime film produced by STUDIO4℃ and released in Japan in August 2025. Inspired by The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen, the story is set in the near future and depicts the love between Stephan, a human young man, and ChaO, the princess of the mermaid kingdom. Though they come from different peoples, their hearts are drawn to each other.
The film won the Jury Award in the feature film category at France’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025, the festival’s second-highest honor after the Cristal. It marked the first such achievement for a Japanese film in eight years. The film also won Best Animation at the 35th Japan Film Critics Award.
