The anime film adaptation of Kaori Mado‘s novel Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to (also known by the short title Kimi-Hana) has released its full trailer and new key visuals on Tuesday, along with announcements of additional cast members, the expanded production team, and the official theme song.

Theme Song and New Cast

The theme song featured in the trailer is titled “Kienai Hanabi” (Eternal Fireworks), performed by idol group timelesz, whose vibrant sound beautifully complements the romantic atmosphere of the story.

Among the newly announced cast members, Rie Takahashi voices Haru, the mysterious girl, and Natsuko Yokosawa voices Yukari Natsume, the mother of the main character Makoto.

Synopsis

The story is set during the Nagaoka Fireworks Festival, one of Japan’s three greatest fireworks festivals that draws hundreds of thousands of spectators to Niigata Prefecture every year.

Makoto Natsume, a middle-school student who left Tokyo lacking social skills and self-confidence, encounters Aki Hayama, a popular girl who seems to have everything — beauty and talent as class president. What connects the two is a nostalgic painting of fireworks, and behind the mystery of that painting lies their shared path. They must make a crucial decision within a limited span of time.

Principal Cast and Staff

Shōri Satō, a member of idol group timelesz, voices the lead role of Makoto Natsume, while Nanoka Hara — known for her live-action roles in Suzume, Oshi no Ko, and Mieruko-chan — voices the heroine Aki Hayama.

The film is directed by Kei Suzuki (assistant director on City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust and Tower of God: Return of the Prince), produced by studios Synergy SP and The Answer Studio. The screenplay is by Kōhei Mori, character design by Yūji Watanabe, and production planning by Michihiko Umezawa (known for The Dangers in My Heart and A Couple of Cuckoos) together with Shinei Animation.

Release Date and Additional Information

The film is scheduled to open nationwide in Japan on July 17. Prior to this, it received a special screening at the 79th Cannes Film Festival as part of the “Tokyo International Film Festival’s Goes to Cannes” program on May 15.

The original novel is published under the Gagaga Bunko imprint of Shogakukan, with illustrations by Akamoku, released on December 18, 2025. A manga adaptation is also currently in serialization.
