About the Seiun Awards

The Seiun Awards, whose name literally means “Nebula Awards,” are closer in format to the United States’ Hugo Awards. Winners are chosen by registered participants of the Japan SF Convention. Voting this year was held online from March 16 to May 15 for works released between January 1 and December 31, 2024.

Apocalypse Hotel – The Anime and Its World

The original anime Apocalypse Hotel began airing in April 2025, with Crunchyroll streaming it as it aired. The story is set in Ginza, Tokyo, in an era after human society has collapsed and nature has begun reclaiming the area. The protagonist is Yachiyo, a robot hotel manager who continues running the Ginsaro hotel with other robots even though no guests remain. They keep the hotel ready at all times while waiting for the owner and guests to return.

The anime is directed by Kana Shundo, who previously served as an episode director on series such as Saga of Tanya the Evil, Princess Connect! Re:Dive, and Luminous Witches. It is produced by Cygames Pictures, with original character designs by manga creator Izumi Takemoto (Teke Teke My Heart, Garden Shimai) and animation character designs by Natsuki Yokoyama. Shigeru Murakoshi (Ninja Kamui, Zombie Land Saga, I Parry Everything) handles series composition, while Yoshiaki Fujisawa composes the music.
