Netflix revealed during its Anime Studio Focus panel at the Annecy International Festival that Kasumi Yasuda‘s manga Fool Night is getting a television anime adaptation. The series is set to debut worldwide on Netflix in 2026.

The project marks a historic first collaboration between studios Sunrise and SHAFT. Alongside the announcement, the two studios unveiled a teaser trailer, a promotional visual, and the full cast and staff lineup. Yasuda also shared a commemorative illustration to celebrate the occasion.

Story

Kamiya is at the end of his rope. His mother is gravely ill, and his meager wages barely cover her medication — let alone food. With few options remaining, he begins to consider undergoing “transfloration,” a life-altering process that would mean giving up his own body for a payday. Kamiya is about to test the limits of a society whose humanity is slowly fading.

About the Studios

Sunrise is best known for the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise and mecha titles such as Muteki Chōjin Zambot 3 and Armored Trooper Votoms, as well as Love Live! and Code Geass. The studio is currently running its “Sunrise 50th Anniversary” project ahead of the 50th anniversary of Muteki Chōjin Zambot 3 — its first production under the Sunrise name — in 2027.

SHAFT, founded in 1975, is closely associated with director Akiyuki Simbo and the distinctive visual style he helped establish alongside Shin Oonuma and Tatsuya Oishi. The studio is celebrated for works including Puella Magi Madoka Magica, the Monogatari series, and March comes in like a lion, as well as Pretty Boy Detective Club, Assault Lily Bouquet, and RWBY: Ice Queendom.
