The upcoming summer anime Honoo no Toukyuujo Dodge Danko (炎の闘球女 ドッジ弾子) has released the synopsis and advance scene cuts for its first episode, titled “Honoo no Toukyuujo! Ichigeki Danko!”, ahead of its premiere on Monday, July 6, 2026.

A Legendary Sequel Decades in the Making

The series is the official sequel to Honoo no Toukyuuji Dodge Danhei, the massively popular 1990s anime, and is based on the ongoing manga by Tetsuhiro Koshita serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly CoroCoro Comic. The story follows Ichigeki Danko, the daughter of legendary “Flaming Dodgeball Boy” Ichigeki Danhei, as she inherits her father’s burning spirit and sets out to forge a new legend in the ultimate combat sport known as “Toukyuu.”

The anime is directed by Hirofumi Ikehata and produced by animation studio CUE.

Episode 1 Synopsis

“Toukyuu” — the ultimate combat sport where players pour their blazing souls into a ball and hurl it at their opponents. Long ago, Ichigeki Danhei, the “Flaming Dodgeball Boy,” shook the Toukyuu world to its core. Now, more than 30 years later, his daughter Danko is ready to write her own legend.

However, the Toukyuu club at Kyukawa Elementary — now reorganized as Kyukawa Combined Elementary and Junior High School — was disbanded after a string of injuries during Danhei’s era. Danko and her childhood friend Jinko appeal to the principal to revive the club, only to be flatly refused.

But Danko is not the type to give up easily. She begins recruiting members and soon meets a colorful cast of teammates: Mochiko, a soft-bodied girl wildly popular with the boys; Suzy, a returnee from abroad with all-around athletic talent; and Hanie, a cool-headed girl who commands the latest technology.
