The manga Ore wa Gakuen Zunō Battle no Enshutsu-ka! ~Jishō Mob ga Kage kara Egaku Saikyō Shujinkō Musō Scenario~ (lit. “I’m the Director of the School Brain Battle! ~The Scenario of the Strongest Protagonist Written from the Shadows by a Self-Proclaimed Background Character~”) launched its first volume today, July 8, through Overlap‘s Gardo Comics imprint.
The series is a manga adaptation of the original light novel by Katanuma Hotori, with art by Hattori Masaki.
Story
Tanaka Kanota is a high schooler who is universally regarded — by himself and everyone around him — as a complete background character. In reality, however, he possesses a unique talent honed since childhood: acting as a behind-the-scenes “director,” secretly pulling strings to make real life as entertaining as fiction.
The story kicks off when Kanota transfers to Teiō Gakuen, a prestigious school where everything is decided through game-based duels. There he encounters Kiriya Tōru, a mysterious young man radiating the aura of a powerful protagonist from the criminal underworld. Kanota plans to secretly orchestrate events so that Tōru rises to become the ultimate hero of the story.
But things don’t go according to plan — somehow, Kanota himself keeps getting pulled into the spotlight, drawing attention from all sides instead of staying quietly in the wings as intended.
