Kōhei Horikoshi, the manga artist behind the global phenomenon My Hero Academia, is set to return to the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump with a brand-new one-shot manga. Titled Warawanaide yo, Shijima-san (Don’t Laugh at Me, Shijima), the story will appear in the magazine’s combined 37th and 38th issue, hitting stands on August 10.
A Boy-Meets-Girl Horror Story
Horikoshi describes the one-shot as a “boy-meets-girl horror” manga — a notable departure from the superhero action that defined his decade-long run on My Hero Academia.
My Hero Academia: A Look Back
Horikoshi launched My Hero Academia in Weekly Shonen Jump in July 2014, concluding the series in August 2024 after more than ten years. He contributed an additional 38 pages of new content to the manga’s 42nd and final compiled volume, released in December 2024. The series surpassed 100 million copies in circulation worldwide in April 2024. Viz Media publishes the English edition in North America in both print and digital formats, while Shueisha’s MANGA Plus service also offers the manga digitally in English.
Short Anime and the Final TV Season
A short anime based on a story Horikoshi wrote for the My Hero Academia Fan Book: Ultra Age has also been making the rounds. It made its world premiere at Anime Expo in July, and is scheduled to screen in Japan at the “Character Match Up” event on August 1–2, before streaming in Japan from August 3.
Meanwhile, the television anime’s eighth and final season began airing in October 2025 on YTV and NTV affiliate channels. Crunchyroll streamed the season worldwide outside Asia, including an English dub, with the series finale airing last December.
