Saki Hiwatari’s beloved manga Please Save My Earth (known in Japanese as Boku no Chikyū wo Mamotte, or “Boku Tama” for short) is heading to Amazon Prime Video as a live-action series, with actress Alice Hirose set to star.

Staff

Takahiro Miki — whose previous live-action credits include Blue Spring Ride, Solanin, and We Were There — is directing the series. Scripts are being written by Nana Yamamoto, known for Vivant, Antihero, and Cinderella Complex. Moshimoss (Kosuke Anamizu) is composing the music.

The project is presented by Amazon MGM Studios, with THE SEVEN collective planning and producing alongside Kadokawa Daiei Studio.

Story

The series centers on Alice, a shy girl who moves from her quiet hometown to a bustling city to attend a new high school. On top of adjusting to her new life, she is constantly harassed by her bratty neighbor boy, Rin. When she ends up babysitting him and the task ends in unexpected tragedy, Alice begins to suspect that a greater force may be at work behind the scenes.

About the Original Manga

Hiwatari serialized the original manga in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume magazine from 1986 to 1994. Production I.G adapted it into an original video anime (OVA) series in 1993–94, which was followed by a feature-length compilation film in 1995 and a music image video in 2001. Viz Media has published the manga and released the OVA in North America.

Sequels

Hiwatari also wrote a sequel manga, Boku o Tsutsumu Tsuki no Hikari (Embraced by the Moonlight), set years after the original story and following the son of two characters from the first series. It ran in Bessatsu Hana to Yume and Hana to Yume Plus from 2003 to 2014. A further sequel, Boku wa Chikyū to Utau, has been serializing in Bessatsu Hana to Yume and Melody since 2015.
