A new line of medical scrubs inspired by the beloved picture-book series Pan Dorobou (パンどろぼう) has officially gone on sale, aimed at doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers.
About Pan Dorobou
Pan Dorobou is a hit picture-book series by Shibata Keiko that has surpassed a cumulative 5.5 million copies sold. The stories follow an endearing, mischievous master thief who roams the land in search of delicious bread. An anime adaptation has been announced, directed by Kyogoku Naohiko and produced by Shin-Ei Animation, set to air on NHK Eテレ from October 2026. Asai Ayaka will voice the titular Pan Dorobou, while Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is handling the ending theme.
Design Highlights
The scrubs come in a warm brown-orange colorway that evokes the cozy world of the source material. Pan Dorobou and mouth-watering bread motifs are scattered throughout, rendered through detailed embroidery on the garment and printed artwork on the back lining. The craftsmanship carefully recreates the series’ distinctive visual style — from the rich warmth of oil pastels and layered paint to the delicate strokes of colored pencil.
A playful touch is built into the pockets of both the top and pants: Pan Dorobou and bread peek out just halfway, and folding back the pocket edge reveals the full illustration. This feature was designed with the hope that “the uniform will naturally spark conversation.”
Even the product tag received special attention, styled after the picture book’s cover to deliver a sense of excitement the moment the item is picked up.
