Shinchosha has expanded its original merchandise line for the classic anime film Grave of the Fireflies (火垂るの墓) with three brand-new T-shirt designs, available for purchase from 12 August 2026.
About Grave of the Fireflies
Directed by the legendary animator Isao Takahata — known for works such as Heidi, Girl of the Alps and 3000 Leagues in Search of Mother — Grave of the Fireflies was released in 1988. Adapted from a novel by Akiyuki Nosaka, the film follows Seita, a 14-year-old boy who loses his mother in an air raid, as he struggles to keep his four-year-old sister Setsuko alive in wartime Japan.
Three New Back-Print Designs
The new additions join an already popular collaboration series that includes four existing T-shirts and four sweatshirts. Each new design features rare watercolour artwork taken directly from the film’s image boards, printed as a large back graphic. The soft, warm brushwork quietly conveys the film’s emotional world — a collection that feels especially resonant in the month of August.
