Animated feature film Wareware wa Uchūjin (我々は宇宙人), directed by Kadowaki Kohei, has announced a collaboration with popular soba restaurant chain Meidai Fuji Soba (名代 富士そば), which appears in the film itself. Special collaborative visuals will be displayed at 18 Fuji Soba locations from September 18 to October 5.
About the Film
Wareware wa Uchūjin is a feature-length anime depicting a friendship spanning 30 years between Tsubasa, a shy boy troubled by his own ordinariness, and Akitaro, the popular kid in class. The film is set for a nationwide Japanese release on September 25, 2026, and received its world premiere in the Directors’ Fortnight (Quinzaine des Cinéastes) section of the 79th Cannes International Film Festival.
The film is noted for its distinctive visual style, blending animated characters with photorealistic backgrounds. The real-life Fuji Soba Gotanda branch features prominently in the story — a placement made possible by director Kadowaki’s own passionate approach to the chain, as he is a devoted fan.
Collaboration Visual and Participating Locations
The collab visual combines the film’s key art with an image of Fuji Soba’s popular katsudon (pork cutlet rice bowl). It will be displayed at branches including Gotanda, Okachimachi Ekimae, Seibu Shinjuku, Dogenzaka, Shibuya Higashiguchi, Ikebukuro Higashiguchi, Kinshicho, and Oimachi, among others.
