A stage greeting celebrating the release of Eiga Meitantei Precure! Fushigi na Niwa to Futari no Himitsu (Meitantei Precure! The Movie: The Mysterious Garden and the Two Girls’ Secret) was held on September 19 at United Cinema Toyosu in Tokyo. Taking the stage were Chiga Hikari (Cure Answer / Akechi Anna), Hondo Kaede (Cure Mystic / Kobayashi Mikuru), Hasegawa Ikumi (Cure Éclair / Hoba Kurea), Higashiyama Nao (Cure Arcana / Mori Aruruka), and Kito Akari, who voices Karin, a character original to the film.
The film opened on September 18. Its story follows Anna and her friends as they investigate a series of mysterious “X mark incidents” caused by a creature called Damedame. When the fairy Rain asks them to protect Karin from Damedame, the adventure begins. At the event, the cast and their Precure characters entered the stage hand-in-hand and performed live character roll calls. The MC announced that the film had surpassed 100 million yen at the box office on its opening day, drawing cheers and smiles from a packed audience.
New Pairings Never Seen in the TV Series
The film features pairings between characters rarely seen together in the TV anime: Cure Answer with Cure Éclair, and Cure Mystic with Cure Arcana. Hasegawa and Chiga described the first pair as “both cheerful and easygoing” and “able to communicate naturally with anyone.” Higashiyama noted that Cure Mystic and Cure Arcana are “completely opposite in personality,” while Hondo praised the exchanges between them during battle, saying “the way Cure Arcana helps out and the banter between them is really lovely.” Higashiyama then recited one of her favorite lines from Cure Arcana to Cure Mystic, delighting the crowd.
Kito Akari on Playing the Insecure Karin
Karin, the film’s original character voiced by Kito Akari, is a girl who lacks confidence in herself. Kito reflected: “I was able to pour a lot of myself into this character, and I think many viewers will see themselves in her too.” She added, “The way all the Precure rally around Karin and support her — I think that saves Karin, and I hope it saves the people watching too.” On the recording process, she noted: “Even lines that were just breathing had stage directions describing Karin’s feelings, and I tried to capture every one of those emotions.”
Characters They Want to Cheer For — and Favorite Lines
Since the film distributes “Pochitan Miracle Lights” — cheering items — to children 13 and under, the MC asked each cast member which character they most wanted to cheer for. Chiga and Hondo both immediately answered “Pochitan!” Hasegawa said she “nearly cried during recording just because of Pochitan.” Higashiyama chose Mashutan, the fairy who supports Cure Arcana: “Even though Mashutan is scared, she still says ‘It’s okay, Arcana!’ — it’s so endearing.” Hasegawa also said she wanted to cheer for Cure Answer, whose eyes in one scene “made my heart clench.” Kito said she wanted to cheer for all the Precure, and highlighted the appearances of characters from Kimi to Idol Precure♪ and Wonderful Precure! as a thrilling moment.
The event’s final segment had each cast member recite their favorite line from their character. Kito chose a climactic line for Karin; Higashiyama picked one that reveals Cure Arcana’s inner world; Hasegawa chose a line where the detective Precure rise up against adversity, calling it “very true to who Meitantei Precure are — a line born from everyone thinking and finding answers together.” Hondo selected a line from Mikuru to Anna that she summarized as “lean on me more, thank you always, I love you,” and reflected: “Beyond what we see in the anime, these characters are living their lives and going through so much.” Finally, Chiga recited the line Cure Answer delivers to Karin near the film’s end: “It’s a line that blends gentleness and strength — one I put my whole heart into.” She closed the event by telling the audience: “For the children watching — as you grow up and encounter the feelings this film depicts, I hope it will be there to push you forward.”
