Aniplex officially confirmed via a video released on Saturday that the Fate/strange Fake television anime will receive a new season. The announcement was first made at a panel during the Anime NYC event on Friday before being confirmed through official online channels.
The news had been widely anticipated ever since Aniplex released a video carrying a “To be continued” message following the broadcast of the anime’s 13th episode in March, setting fan speculation alight.
Origins of the Series
The anime is based on Ryohgo Narita‘s spinoff story Fate/strange Fake. Narita — known for Baccano! and Durarara!! — originally wrote the story as an April Fool’s joke titled Fake/states night on April 1, 2008. He later expanded it into a supplement for Type-Moon Ace Vol. 2 magazine, and eventually launched a full light novel series with illustrations by Shizuki Morii in January 2015. Kadokawa‘s Dengeki Bunko imprint published the ninth volume in March 2024, with the tenth and final volume set to ship this summer. Morii has also been drawing a manga adaptation simultaneously.
First Season and Staff
The first season debuted on January 3 at 11:30 p.m. on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV. The premiere broadcast ran 90 minutes, combining the Fate/strange Fake -Whispers of Dawn- special — which had originally aired in Japan in July 2023 — with the first episode of the main series.
The anime is produced at A-1 Pictures and directed by Shun Enokido and Takahito Sakazume, both of whom previously helmed the Whispers of Dawn special. Daisuke Daitō wrote the series scripts, Yūkei Yamada handled character design and served as chief animation director, and Hiroyuki Sawano — known for Attack on Titan and Mobile Suit Gundam UC — composed the music.
The opening theme, “Provant,” is performed by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Jean-Ken Johnny & TAKUMA.
Streaming and Dub Releases
The English-subtitled version of the first episode made its debut at the “Fate 20th Anniversary Showcase” event in November 2024. Crunchyroll began streaming the Japanese-dubbed version in December 2024 and launched the English dub in January 2026. The platform carries the series across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS.
