The production team behind the upcoming television anime adaptation of Tetsuhiro Koshita‘s manga Honō no Tōkyūjo: Dodge Danko revealed the series’ main visual and a wave of new cast announcements on Sunday, filling out the rosters for all four competing dodgeball teams.

Noriko Hidaka, who voiced Danpei Ichigeki in the original Honō no Tōkyūji Dodge Danpei anime, returns to reprise the role in flashback sequences and will also serve as narrator for this sequel series.

Staff and Theme Songs

Hiroshi Ikehata — known for directing Dark Gathering and TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You — helms the anime at studio CUE. Kazuho Hyōdō handles series scripts, and Narihito Sekikawa serves as character designer and chief animation director.

Girl group Momoiro Clover Z performs the opening theme “Kaishin no Ichigeki” (A Masterful Play), while voice-acting idol unit i☆Ris performs the ending theme “Welcome to Azatosa World.”

Additional staff includes music by Yasunori Iwasaki and Ren Tsukagoshi, sound direction by Yūichi Imaizumi, and music production by Avex Pictures.

Premiere and Background

The anime premieres on July 6 on Tokyo MX and BS11 at 11:00 p.m. JST, followed by MBS on July 7.

The series is a sequel to Koshita’s original Honō no Tōkyūji Dodge Danpei manga, which ran in Shogakukan’s Monthly CoroCoro Comic from 1989 to 1995 across 18 volumes. That manga was previously adapted into a 47-episode TV anime by Animation 21, which aired from 1991 to 1992.

The sequel manga Honō no Tōkyūjo: Dodge Danko launched on the Weekly CoroCoro Comic website in November 2022, with its sixth compiled volume published in August 2025.
