Houkago Kitaku Biyori (放課後帰宅びより), the manga by Matsuda Mai, has officially been greenlit for a TV anime adaptation. The series is scheduled to begin broadcasting on Nippon TV (NTV) in April 2027. Alongside the announcement on October 7, a teaser visual and a special celebratory illustration drawn by Matsuda herself were both unveiled.
About the Series
Matsuda Mai is known for her previous works Kinshicho Night Survive and Hikaru in the Light! Her latest series, Houkago Kitaku Biyori, is a high-school romantic comedy centered on a school’s “going-home club” (帰宅部).
The story follows Sato Shun, a boy who was forced to give up his dream of becoming a soccer player due to injury. On his first day at a new high school, he meets his senior Sato Naoki — nicknamed “Chokki-chan” — whose signature phrase is “I just want to go home.” She recruits Shun into the “Hyper Kitaku-bu” (Hyper Going-Home Club), and the two gradually grow closer.
An anime adaptation had been announced as in development back in March of last year. The manga is currently serialized in Manga Action (Futabasha) and Web Action, with Volume 7 going on sale on October 8.
Teaser Visual and Celebratory Illustration
The newly released teaser visual depicts Chokki-chan waiting for someone at the school gate — a scene that perfectly captures the spirit of the going-home club. The celebratory illustration drawn by Matsuda shows Chokki-chan holding a tree branch alongside Shun flashing a peace sign.
Matsuda included a comment within the illustration:
“I’m so excited! The Hyper Kitaku-bu is going to move, talk, and head on home!”
Free Reading Campaign
To celebrate the anime announcement, Web Action is running a free trial-reading campaign for the original manga. Three volumes are available to read at no charge until noon on October 21.
