Japan’s music and animation worlds have lost another important figure. Jun Hashimoto, a lyricist known for major works in both pop music and anime, has passed away.
Anime Works
Hashimoto wrote lyrics for the TV anime Galaxy Express 999, including the opening theme of the same name and the ending theme “Aoi Chikyū” (Blue Earth). He also wrote the lyrics for “Honoo no Takaramono” (Blazing Treasure) for the film Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, which marked Hayao Miyazaki‘s feature-film directorial debut.
Famous Pop Music Works
Beyond anime, Hashimoto left behind many important works in Japan’s mainstream music scene, including:
- Lyrics for “Blue Chateau” by Jackey Yoshikawa and His Blue Comets, which won the Grand Prix at the Japan Record Award in 1967
- Lyrics for “Blue Light Yokohama” by actor and singer Ayumi Ishida
- Lyrics for “Amairo no Kami no Otome” (A Maiden With Flaxen Hair) by The Village Singers
Personal Background
Hashimoto’s real name was Junsuke Yoda. He was the son of Junichi Yoda, a well-known children’s literature author. His own son, Haruo, works as a music producer and is known for discovering and developing Japanese singer MISIA into a nationally famous artist.
