The live-action drama Nigatsu no Shōsha: Zettai Gōkaku no Kyōshitsu (二月の勝者-絶対合格の教室-), adapted from Takase Shiho’s manga serialised in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits, is currently available for unlimited streaming on Hulu and for home DVD rental through TSUTAYA DISCAS.
Where to Stream
Among the major Japanese video-on-demand platforms surveyed, Hulu is the only service offering the series as part of its unlimited plan at ¥1,320 per month (tax included). There is no free trial period, but subscribers receive 400 points each month that can be applied toward rental titles. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, U-NEXT, DMM TV, Lemino, FOD, ABEMA, and TELASA do not currently carry the series.
DVD Rental via TSUTAYA DISCAS
Viewers who prefer physical media can rent the series through TSUTAYA DISCAS on its 定額レンタル8ダブル (Teigaku Rental 8 Double) plan at ¥2,200 per month (tax included). The plan allows up to eight discs per month, dispatched two at a time, with shipping included and no return deadline. Because the title is classified as a back-catalogue (旧作) release, it is eligible for rental from the very start of the 30-day free trial period.
Story and Highlights
Nigatsu no Shōsha is set at the Kichijoji branch of the cram school “Ōka Seminar” and follows the staff and families of students preparing for middle-school entrance exams. Kuroki Kurato, a formerly celebrated instructor at the elite prep school “Lutewack,” arrives as the branch’s new director. At the first parent information session he bluntly warns that anyone without resolve should leave — then promises every student a place at their first-choice school.
Alongside him is Sakura Mai, a newly hired instructor who wants to support each child individually. Her empathetic approach repeatedly clashes with Kuroki’s unsentimental methods as both work toward the February exam season. The series distinguishes itself by depicting the entrance-exam world from the instructors’ perspective, weaving in a different student or family dilemma each episode. The theme song is “Jinchōge” by DISH//.
