About the Story
Endō’s Mahō Shōjo Ikusei Keikaku light novel series is set in a world where a social game called The Magical Girl Raising Project grants one in tens of thousands of people the chance to become a magical girl — gifted with extraordinary physical abilities, appearance, and unique magical powers. When the administration announces that the number of magical girls in one district must be cut in half to address a magical energy shortage, what begins as a competition among 16 magical girls to collect “magical candy” quickly descends into a deadly battle for survival.
Source Material
Endō launched the original light novel series through Takarajimasha‘s Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! Bunko imprint in June 2012. The 18th volume was published in November 2023. The second and third volumes — released in November and December 2012 — cover the “Restart” arc that serves as the basis for this new anime. Yen Press has been publishing the series in English since June 2017.
Nori-Senbei‘s manga adaptation of the Restart arc launched in Kadokawa’s Monthly Comp Ace in 2016, with one compiled volume released in September of that year.
The original 12-episode Magical Girl Raising Project anime premiered on AT-X in October 2016, with Crunchyroll streaming the series simulcast.
