The official website for the anime project Patlabor EZY has unveiled a full trailer and key visual for the theatrical film “File 2”, the second installment in the theatrical film series, which compiles episodes 4 through 6. The film is scheduled for release on August 14.
Story and World of Patlabor EZY
Patlabor EZY is set in the 2030s, a Japan grappling with a severe labor shortage and the rapid proliferation of AI-driven autonomous systems. The large “Labor” mecha that were once considered cutting-edge industrial technology have become a commonplace part of daily life and are being replaced at an ever-increasing rate by fully automated, driverless robots. Even so, the SV-2 unit continues its mission of policing and combating Labor-related crimes, equipped with the AV-98Plus Ingram—an upgraded version of the classic AV-98 Ingram that has been in service for nearly 40 years. While some might dismiss it as “old junk that should have been scrapped,” the Ingram Plus has received a complete overhaul of its frame, hydraulics, and software, along with a new helmet fitted with an Augmented Reality display to feed critical information to the pilot.

Release Schedule and Background
Patlabor EZY consists of 8 episodes total, divided across three theatrical films. File 1 (episodes 1–3) already screened on May 15, and File 2 (episodes 4–6) follows on August 14. Both films present an omnibus-style anthology where each episode can be enjoyed independently. File 3, comprising episodes 7–8, wraps up the story across two concluding episodes and is scheduled for March 2027.
The project first debuted at the MIFA animation market at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2017, followed by a teaser trailer in August 2022, before its full screening tied to the 35th anniversary theatrical run of Patlabor: The Movie in September 2024.
The Patlabor franchise was created by the collective HEADGEAR, which comprises Mamoru Oshii, Kazunori Ito, Yutaka Izubuchi, Akemi Takada, and Masami Yuki. The franchise’s most recent theatrical entry was Patlabor WXIII, which screened in Japan in 2002.
