The anime film Peleliu – Guernica of Paradise, based on the manga by Kazuyoshi Takeda, will return for a special one-day-only revival screening on October 31 at UDX Theater in Tokyo.
Following the screening, a talk show will be held featuring director Goro Kuji and animation film researcher Seiji Kano. Manga author Kazuyoshi Takeda will also participate remotely.
About the Film
The film originally opened on December 5, 2025, marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. It depicts the fierce battle on Peleliu Island in Palau, which began on September 15, 1944 — a period when Japan’s military situation in the Pacific War was rapidly deteriorating.
The story is told through deformed, three-headed chibi-style characters to make it approachable, while unflinchingly portraying what young soldiers thought and felt as they struggled to survive on a hellish battlefield.
Cast
- Rihito Itagaki — as Hitoshi Tamaru, the protagonist who aspires to become a manga artist
- Tomoya Nakamura — as Keisuke Yoshiki, a dependable superior private
