Fans of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica (魔法少女まどか☆マギカ) have new merchandise to look forward to: a range of character-themed smartwatches and ring watches produced in collaboration with character-collab specialist brand GARRACK. Pre-orders open on October 9, with the smartwatches launching on October 30 and the ring watches following on December 11.
About the Series
Originally broadcast as a TV anime in 2011, Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica became a cultural phenomenon. The story follows ordinary second-year middle-schooler Kaname Madoka as a fateful encounter draws her into the world of magical girls born from wishes. The series was directed by Shinbo Akiyuki, written by Urobuchi Gen (Nitroplus), and features original character designs by Aoki Ume. Its blend of charming slice-of-life moments and unpredictable thriller storytelling — elevated by animation studio Shaft, the avant-garde spatial design of Gekidan Inu Curry, and the dramatic score of Kajiura Yuki — earned it widespread critical acclaim.
Two compilation films followed in 2012, with the fully original Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica: Rebellion arriving in 2013 and becoming the first late-night anime theatrical release to gross over ¥2 billion. The newest entry, Gekijouban Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten, began screening in August 2026 and has already surpassed ¥2.1 billion at the box office — a new series record.
Smartwatches — On Sale October 30
The smartwatch lineup covers six characters: Kaname Madoka, Akemi Homura, Miki Sayaka, Sakura Kyoko, Tomoe Mami, and Momoe Nagisa. Each model features a character-specific band design and an exclusive watch face with two standout gimmicks:
- When the wearer’s heart rate reaches a set level, the character’s image transforms into her magical girl costume.
- Incoming notifications trigger a pop-up of Soul Gem and other series icons on the display.
Practical features include fast charging, a battery life of up to 10 days, and health-tracking functions such as stress and exercise monitoring. Each watch ships in a character-designed special box, and early purchasers will receive a limited Changing Card that shifts color depending on the viewing angle. Price: ¥10,890 (tax included) per model.
Ring Watches — On Sale December 11
The ring watch collection spans five characters: Kaname Madoka, Akemi Homura, Tomoe Mami, Miki Sayaka, and Sakura Kyoko. Inspired by the Soul Gem rings seen in the anime, each watch face is crafted using the traditional Japanese decorative technique known as Raden (螺鈿細工) — inlaid natural shell that produces an iridescent shimmer evoking the glow of a Soul Gem. Price: ¥16,500 (tax included) per model.
Both collections open for pre-order on October 9, offering fans a wearable way to carry the world of Puella Magi Madoka☆Magica with them every day.
