A Cinema Concert event based on 『劇場版 さよなら銀河鉄道999 ―アンドロメダ終着駅―』 (Sayonara Galaxy Express 999: Andromeda Terminal Station) has been officially confirmed to take place on June 21, 2026 at the main hall of Aichi Prefectural Art Theater in Nagoya.
The event is titled 「さよなら銀河鉄道999 シネマ・コンサート ～池田昌子さんを偲んで～」, held in memory of Ikeda Masako, the beloved voice actress who gave life to the character “Maetel” — a figure deeply cherished by fans — who passed away peacefully on March 3 of last year.
From Success to a First-Ever Screening
Previously, “銀河鉄道999 シネマ・コンサート” had been held in Nagoya in recent years and was met with an enthusiastic response. This time, the second film in the series — Sayonara Galaxy Express 999: Andromeda Terminal Station (released in 1981) — will be presented in what marks the first-ever cinema concert screening of this installment, following a joint screening of both films in Tokyo back in November 2021.
What Is a Cinema Concert?
A Cinema Concert is a format in which the film is screened with its dialogue and sound effects intact, but the musical score is replaced with live performance by a full orchestra accompanying the film projected on the big screen throughout. The score for this film was composed by Tokikin Osamu, who brings it to life with grand arrangements and a beautifully evocative sound.
