Story Summary

Go Forward is adapted from the manga by Kira, which began serialization in 1991. It follows the daily life of Mametaro, a mixed-breed dog who deeply loves his owner Ikugo and his girlfriend Hanako more than anything else, but cannot accept Akiyo, Ikugo’s young boyfriend, and often feels compelled to protect her. The series presents the cheerful, everyday life of one good-natured dog you might encounter anywhere.

Where to Watch

SkySet Entertainment will stream both parts on its own website in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia, with special content including commentary from the voice cast and actor interviews available as well. Beyond that, both series will be made available for streaming on other platforms after they premiere on SkySet.

Manga and Anime History

Kira began serializing the manga Massugu ni Iko in Shueisha’s The Margaret magazine in 1991, and since 2002 the manga has continued in Shueisha’s Chorus magazine, receiving irregular new chapter updates. A total of 26 compiled volumes have been released to date.

The first-season TV anime aired in 2003 for 4 episodes, while the sequel Massugu ni Iko: Melon Pan-hen aired in 2004 for 5 episodes.

Additionally, Kira launched a “spinoff” manga titled OH MY DOG! Massugu ni Iko ~Kiki no Baai~ in Shueisha’s office YOU magazine in March 2021, and Shueisha released a compiled volume the same June.
