A fresh wave of Natsume’s Book of Friends (夏目友人帳) merchandise is on the way, featuring brand-new illustrations of Natsume Takashi and Nyanko-sensei. The items will go on sale at Animate stores and the Animate online shop from Saturday, 27 June 2026.
About Natsume’s Book of Friends
The series is a manga by Yuki Midorikawa, serialised in Monthly LaLa (Hakusensha). It follows Natsume Takashi, a boy who has been able to see yokai since childhood. After inheriting his grandmother Reiko’s “Book of Friends” — a tome that binds yokai by their names — he sets out to return those names, accompanied by the self-proclaimed bodyguard Nyanko-sensei. The series has surpassed 19 million copies in circulation. A TV anime adaptation launched in 2008, and its seventh season, Natsume’s Book of Friends: Shichi, aired from October 2024.
Summer-Themed New Goods
The new collection centres on original illustrations depicting Natsume Takashi, Tanuma Kaoru, Natori Shuuichi, and Matoba Seiji enjoying classic summer fare — shaved ice (kakigori), watermelon, and cotton candy — alongside the ever-present Nyanko-sensei. The lineup also includes items using anime scene cuts and a dedicated Nyanko-sensei sub-line rendered in a hand-drawn style.

Animate Birthday Fair: Free Bromide Cards
Animate locations nationwide and the Animate online shop will hold the “TV Anime Natsume’s Book of Friends — Natsume Takashi Birthday Fair 2026” from 27 June to 20 July 2026. Customers who purchase or pre-order any Natsume’s Book of Friends TV anime merchandise during the campaign period will receive a special bromide card (one of four designs) as a gift with purchase.
Only Shop Exhibition at Animate Ikebukuro
A dedicated Only Shop exhibition will also run at the 5F Satellite Space of Animate Ikebukuro (main branch), showcasing standing panels and anime scene-cut displays exclusive to the venue.
