Netflix has dropped a new promotional visual for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, confirming the anime will make its debut this fall on the streaming platform.
Main Characters Revealed
The anime’s official X (formerly Twitter) account also unveiled the names of the four main characters, shown clockwise from the top in the new visual: Weak Kingsley, Talia Yang, Roman Carax, and D.
Staff
Kai Ikarashi, who served as storyboard artist, animation director, animator, and prop designer on the first series, steps into the director’s chair for the first time with this new installment. The rest of the core creative team includes:
- Bartosz Sztybor (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners producer and writer) — returning in the same role
- Ichigo Kanno (animation director and key animator on the first series) — lead character designer
- Masahiko Otsuka — returning as scriptwriter
Story
The new series is a standalone 10-episode story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077. The staff describe it as:
A raw chronicle of redemption and revenge. When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?
Background
The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, produced by Studio Trigger and based on CD PROJEKT RED‘s Cyberpunk 2077 video game — itself adapted from Mike Pondsmith‘s Cyberpunk tabletop RPG series — premiered on Netflix in September 2022.
Home Video Releases
Aniplex of America will release the series in a complete Blu-ray Disc set in North America on October 28. Anime Limited and Plaion Pictures will handle the European home video release, while Sugoi Co will distribute it in Australia and New Zealand.
Prequel Manga
A prequel manga, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness, illustrated by Asano (known for the BNA: Brand New Animal manga) and written by Bartosz Sztybor, launched on the Comic Alive+ website in December. The title is being released in seven languages beyond Japanese, with Dark Horse handling the English print edition.
