Takashi Okazaki, the character designer behind the anime short “The Duel: Payback” from Star Wars: Visions Volume 3, has won an Emmy Award in a juried category — one in which entrants are screened by a panel of professionals from appropriate peer groups.
The award will be presented at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles on September 6, with an edited presentation airing on FXX on September 12. The broader 2026 Emmy Awards ceremony, where additional winners will be announced, is scheduled for September 14 at the Peacock Theater.
About “The Duel: Payback”
The short was directed by Takanobu Mizuno at Kamikaze Douga + ANIMA. It serves as a direct sequel to “The Duel,” one of the standout shorts from the original Star Wars: Visions anthology — for which Okazaki also served as character designer. The Star Wars franchise describes the story as follows:

Star Wars: Visions Volume 3
Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 debuted on Disney+ in October 2025, continuing the storylines of three shorts from the first volume: “The Duel,” “Village Bride,” and “The Ninth Jedi.”
This year’s Primetime Emmy Awards also nominated Shinya Ōhira and david production in the Outstanding Animated Program category for their short “Black,” another entry from Star Wars: Visions Volume 3.
The Ninth Jedi Spinoff Series
Meanwhile, the limited anime series Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi — a spinoff from the Star Wars: Visions project — premiered on August 5 on both Disney+ and Hulu.
