The opening-day stage greeting for Shin Gekijouban☆Keroro Gunsou: Fukkatsu shite Sokkou Chikyuu Metsubou no Kiki de Arimasu! was held on June 26 at TOHOシネマズ 日比谷 in Tokyo. Taking the stage were Watanabe Kumiko (voice of Keroro Gunsou), Jesse (SixTONES) (voices of Aruru and Deruru), singer ano (opening theme and main theme), and Fukuda Yuichi, who served as screenwriter and general director.
First Theatrical Film in 16 Years
Based on the manga by Yoshizaki Mine and published by KADOKAWA, the film is the latest entry in the Keroro Gunsou franchise. The story pits Keroro’s platoon against the strongest enemy in the series’ history, with the invaders’ pride on the line. The event opened with a Keroro mascot watching from the audience seats while Watanabe performed his voice from the stage, delivering the line “You foolish Pekopon people — no, you elite soldiers of Keron!” to the delight of the crowd.
On the 16-year gap since the last theatrical release, Watanabe said it still felt like a continuation rather than a comeback, adding that she was deeply moved by the turnout. Jesse noted the film has so many layers that multiple viewings are needed to catch everything, while ano urged fans to return to cinemas because “fun things happen one after another — there’s no time to blink.” Fukuda, a fan of the original TV anime, expressed gratitude for being involved and quipped that the rainy weather was “very Keroro-like, since he’s a frog.”
Reactions to the Film Announcement
When asked how people around them reacted to the news of the film, Watanabe laughed it off: “It was more like ‘Oh,’ ‘Hmm,’ ‘Good luck with that’ — nothing more.” Jesse reported that fellow SixTONES member Matsumura Hokuto, a big fan of the series, was singing the songs backstage and got excited, also praising Jesse for voicing two characters. Fukuda shared that his younger son, after seeing a preview screening, told him it was “the funniest film you’ve ever directed,” which made him very happy.
“The Lyrics Sound Like Dororo”
ano spoke warmly about the response to the theme song, noting that Keroro fans had been leaving kind comments. “People are saying the lyrics feel like something Dororo (Hyojo) would say, so I’d love for everyone to pay attention to the words,” she said with a smile. Watanabe immediately agreed — “That’s exactly right!” — and, thinking of the relationship between Keroro and Dororo, laughed: “Like the part where he borrows things and never gives them back!”

Fukuda closed by saying the film was made to be enjoyed by everyone from small children to grandparents, and encouraged families, couples, and solo viewers alike to come see it. ano highlighted that the second half of the film delivers an emotional punch, calling the movie a “hybrid” that blends fresh energy — like Jesse — with the classic Keroro spirit. Jesse hoped that even viewers new to the franchise would come to love Aruru and Deruru. Watanabe wrapped up the event by thanking the audience for their presence, saying it was proof of their love for Keroro, and cheerfully invited everyone to “please assist in Keroro Platoon’s invasion of Pekopon!”
