The immersive event for TV anime Kusuriya no Hitorigoto (The Apothecary Diaries), titled 「TVアニメ『薬屋のひとりごと』×東京シティビュー 舞が織りなす幻想の世界 ―天空に響く、舞のしらべ―」, officially opened on August 1, 2026 at the Tokyo City View observatory atop Roppongi Hills. The day before, on July 31, a press preview and opening ceremony were held, with comedian and devoted series fan Suge Ryotaro of Panther taking the stage as guest of honor.

Dancing at 250 Meters Above Sea Level

This marks the first event in the history of Kusuriya no Hitorigoto to center on the theme of dance and performance. The exhibition revisits iconic dance scenes featuring Maomao, Jinshi, and Rouran, pairing them with the sweeping nighttime panorama of Tokyo visible from 250 meters above sea level.

Visitors are first welcomed into the 「─猫猫 星月夜の舞─」 zone, where a central main display shows scenes of Maomao and Jinshi together, while four surrounding sub-displays highlight memorable moments and mysteries Maomao has solved. Every seven minutes, all screens simultaneously project the scene of Maomao dancing atop the castle wall. The zone also shifts in atmosphere between daytime and nighttime visits.

Maomao Statue Debut and the Medicine & Poison Zone

Passing through an entrance styled after the imperial palace, visitors enter the 「─薬と毒─」(Medicine & Poison) zone, where drugs and poisons from the story are displayed alongside related episodes and dialogue. The highlight is the world-premiere unveiling of a Maomao figurine statue, set against a backdrop of the Rokushokan and available as a photo spot.

The next zone, 「─壬氏 月精の舞─」, recreates the scene in which Jinshi and Maomao face the challenge of a foreign envoy who wishes to meet the “spirit of the moon.” A projector displays Jinshi’s lunar spirit dance while the floor beneath is dressed with grass to replicate Maomao’s point of view. The zone also features a panel of Maomao in her dancing costume, a cage of glowing moths bathed in soft blue light, and a photo spot recreating the memorable scene where Jinshi speaks the name of the moon goddess Diana.

Rouran’s Final Dance on a Triple Giant Screen

The final zone, 「─楼蘭 最期の舞─」, projects Rouran’s last dance across three large screens using TVS REGZA’s 4K Laser Projector, allowing visitors to feel the tension and hidden emotions of that pivotal scene up close.

Throughout the venue, QR codes link to an audio guide on Spotify featuring narration, a mini voice drama, and a retrospective talk by Yuki Aoi (voice of Maomao) and Otsuka Takeo (voice of Jinshi).

Opening Ceremony: “Nothing But Things I Love”

Suge Ryotaro arrived at the opening ceremony to warm applause, joking, “Sorry for walking in like I’m the original author — I’m just a fan.” He noted he has followed the series through its manga adaptation for seven to eight years, praising the anime for its pacing and the beauty of its light and color, particularly when music and dance come together.

Asked about the event’s themes of the night sky and dance, Suge was enthusiastic: “I love the night sky so much I go to the planetarium alone in my free time. I’ve also done Parapara dancing, and of course this is my beloved Kusuriya — there’s nothing here I don’t love.”

After viewing the Medicine & Poison zone, Suge revealed that his admiration for Maomao had led him to actually purchase bezoar (牛黄 / goō), a real medicinal substance that appears in the story. He was then given the honor of unveiling the Maomao statue for the first time, remarking, “She’s incredibly cute in that chibi style. I can almost hear her going ‘Ohhh…'”

When the MC commented that Suge resembles Jinshi when he lets his hair down, Suge fired back immediately: “That’s a quack doctor!” — drawing laughter from the crowd.

After experiencing the Jinshi dance zone, Suge said, “It felt like I’d stepped inside the anime. The immersion was incredible. When I heard the camera angle was designed to mimic Maomao’s perspective looking up at Jinshi from the grass, I genuinely felt like I’d become Maomao.”

In the final Rouran zone, Suge admitted he barely held back tears, telling the audience, “Everyone is definitely going to cry.” He expressed a wish to return at night, and closed with an appeal to fans: “This event is for everyone, regardless of age or gender. I’d love for people to come twice — the daytime and nighttime experiences are completely different.”
