An original short anime spinoff of Kaiju No. 8, based on the manga by Naoya Matsumoto, has been announced under the title Narumi no Heijitsu (鳴海の平日). The series will stream in four episodes every Saturday at 20:00 JST beginning September 5, 2026, on the TOHO animation YouTube channel and other platforms. A promotional video has also been released.
Story
The short anime centers on Gen Narumi, widely regarded as the strongest man in Japan’s Defense Force, and the anything-but-peaceful weekdays he navigates. Story concepts are provided by Kizuki Watanabe, the creator of the spinoff manga Kaiju No. 8 RELAX, serialized in Saikyo Jump (Shueisha).

Live Event: Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa — October 24
A key visual has also been unveiled for the live event Anime “Kaiju No. 8” Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa, scheduled for October 24 at Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo. The visual depicts Kafka and company in autumn-themed outfits distinct from their usual Defense Force uniforms. The event will feature live dubbing performances by cast members, a “boot camp” segment, and a newly written dramatic reading. Second-round lottery ticket applications are currently open via Lawson Ticket.
Kafka’s Birthday — August 5
August 5 — stylized as “No. 8 Day” (8/5) — is also the in-universe birthday of protagonist Hibino Kafka. To mark the occasion, the production released a special birthday visual showing Kafka enthusiastically eating a meal, complete with celebratory messages from Reno and Kikoru.
