Kadokawa debuted the first teaser video for the second anime season of Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian (Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san) at the KyoMAF event on Sunday. The light novel series, written by Sunsunsun and illustrated by Momoco, has now reached 5.5 million copies in circulation worldwide, including digital editions.
Season 2 Pushed Back to 2027
The second season was originally scheduled to premiere this year, but has been delayed to 2027 in order to raise the overall quality of the production.
New Creative Team at Dōga Kōbō
Studio Dōga Kōbō returns to produce the new season, but with several key staff changes:
- Director: Hiroshi Haraguchi, who directed episode 4 of the first season, steps up as series director, replacing Ryota Itoh.
- Series Scripts: Yuka Yamada, who wrote the script for episode 6, takes over series composition duties, also replacing Itoh.
- Character Design: Yūhei Murota returns in the same role from the first season.
- Assistant Director: Seong Min Kim, a storyboard artist and episode director on the first season, joins in this new capacity.
Continuing from Volume 4
The second season will pick up the story from the fourth volume of the light novel. The first season aired from July 2024 for 12 episodes; Crunchyroll streamed it simulcast and also offers an English dub.
Story Synopsis
Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou is the “solitary princess” of Seiren Private Academy — a half-Russian silver-haired beauty who tops her class, serves as student council accountant, and keeps everyone at arm’s length. For reasons of her own, she has also taken it upon herself to keep tabs on the slacker sitting next to her, Masachika Kuze, who is forever dozing off and forgetting his textbooks.
Despite her stern exterior, Alya doesn’t actually mind Masachika — she even lets him call her by her nickname. What she doesn’t know is that the Russian phrases she mutters under her breath, assuming no one around her understands the language, are being heard loud and clear by Masachika, who secretly speaks Russian. He plays dumb, all while quietly puzzling over her surprisingly flirtatious confessions.
About the Franchise
Kadokawa publishes the light novels under its Sneaker Bunko imprint. A manga adaptation by Saho Tenamachi launched in October 2022 on Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app. Yen Press releases both the novels and manga in English, with the manga also available through K MANGA.
