Kadokawa released the first main promotional video and first main visual for the anime adaptation of Keiko Shibata‘s picture book series Pan Dorobō (Bread Thief) on Tuesday. The video introduces additional cast and staff members and previews the anime’s opening theme song.
Theme Songs
The opening theme is titled “Pan Dorobō no Uta” (Pan Dorobō Song), performed by voice actress Ayaka Asai — who stars as the titular Pan Dorobō — alongside Junichi Suwabe. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu will perform the ending theme, also titled “Pan Dorobō.”

Core Staff & Production
The anime is being produced at Shinei Animation under the direction of Takahiko Kyōgoku, known for Love Live! School idol project, Love Live! Superstar!!, and GATE. Chie Yamashiro (Hunter × Hunter, Parasyte -the maxim-, Prince of Stride: Alternative) serves as assistant director. Mako Miyako (You and I Are Polar Opposites) is handling character design, while Mariko Mochizuki (Somali and the Forest Spirit) is in charge of series scripts.
About the Source Material
The picture books follow a piece of bread that steals bread from bakeries around the city. Shibata published the first volume in April 2020, and the seventh entry, Pan Dorobō to Sweets Ōji (Bread Thief and the Old Sweets Man), shipped on September 10. The series has over 4.5 million copies in circulation and has earned numerous accolades, including the 11th LIBRO Picture Book Prize.
The Pan Dorobō anime is set to premiere in October.
