Armiger Entertainment has launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a pilot episode for Tenchi Galaxy, a new project within the Tenchi Muyo! franchise described as a “spiritual successor” to the Tenchi Universe television series. The campaign is seeking US$400,000 and runs until September 8. At the time of reporting, 1,258 backers had pledged a combined US$220,455.

Pilot Details and Release Formats

Funds raised will go toward producing a 30-minute pilot episode featuring English audio and subtitles in English, Japanese, French, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese. The pilot will be released in three formats: a standard Blu-ray Disc, a Special Edition in a SteelBook case with exclusive artwork, and a Digital Download. The team stated that the pilot is intended to help greenlight a new Tenchi Muyo! series “in some form.”

Stretch Goals and Add-Ons

Several stretch goals have been announced beyond the base funding target:

  • US$450,000: Japanese language audio track
  • US$475,000: 4K version of the pilot episode
  • US$500,000: A making-of documentary

Backers can also purchase add-ons including posters, an art book, a vinyl and digital soundtrack, and a VHS tape release of the pilot.

About Armiger Entertainment and the Tenchi Muyo! Franchise

Armiger Entertainment is a new company founded by Wesley Vaughn, a contributor to the “Tenchicast!” podcast and co-author of an upcoming book on the history of the Tenchi Muyo! franchise. The company previously ran a successful Kickstarter for “Tenchi Muyo! American Omnibus Edition,” collecting all six issues of JD Calderon and Matt Lunsford’s 1997 Tenchi Muyo! comic book series into a single volume.

The original Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki OVA debuted in 1992 and spawned a wide-ranging cross-media franchise. The fifth OVA season aired across home video releases from February to May 2021. In April 2021, AIC transferred partial ownership of several copyrights — including Tenchi Muyo! — to Toei Agency, with the two companies now sharing joint ownership. The most recent entry in the franchise, Tenchi Muyo! GXP Paradise Starting, shipped on Blu-ray in Japan beginning in May 2023, with Crunchyroll streaming the first episode simultaneously.
