The team behind the original television anime Inherit the Winds (Kaze wo Tsugumono) has released a new trailer for the anime’s upcoming two-week advance theatrical screening. The announcement also revealed the series’ theme songs and an additional cast member.
Theme Songs
Quruli performs the opening theme “Kaze wo Tsugumono”, while hitsujibungaku handles the ending theme “Namida no Kawa” (River of Tears). The ending theme also serves as the theme song for the theatrical screening.
Additional Cast
Takaya Kamikawa joins the cast as Umeda Shinbei.
Story
Set during the Bakumatsu era in Kyoto, the story follows an amnesiac soldier who is taken in by the renowned Shinsengumi swordsman Okita Sōji. Okita gives the man the name “Tachikawa Jinsuke,” and Jinsuke begins a new life among the Mibu soldiers.

Four-Panel Manga and Broadcast Details
A four-panel manga adaptation drawn by Matsuri Muramatsu is set to launch in 2026 on the Twi4 (read “Tsuiyon”) X (formerly Twitter) account operated by Star Seas Company.
The television anime is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 on CBC, TBS, and 26 affiliated networks as part of the “Agaru Anime” programming block.
About the Creator
Original story writer Yutaka Narui is a playwright and the founder of theatrical troupe Caramel Box, known for numerous stage productions centered on the Shinsengumi. While one of those plays shares the title Kaze wo Tsugumono, the writing differs — the play uses kanji for “mono” whereas the anime uses hiragana — and the anime is officially classified as an original work.
