The KyoMAF Special Stage event on Sunday unveiled the second main promotional video for the upcoming Magic Knight Rayearth anime, based on CLAMP’s beloved manga series. The trailer also previewed the show’s opening and ending theme songs, while several new cast members were announced.
Theme Songs
The opening theme, “Otome no Tsurugi” (A Young Lady’s Sword), will be performed by Toaka, while the ending theme, “Hoshiakari” (Starlight), will be performed by Yurina Kawaguchi. Both songs received previews in the new trailer.

Two-Cour Run Confirmed, Premiere Date Set
The event confirmed that the anime will run for two consecutive cours, giving it a half-year broadcast run. The series premieres on October 7 in the “IMAnimation W” programming block on TV Asahi and affiliated channels at 11:45 p.m. JST.
Staff
Yūi Miura, known as an episode director on Ninja Kamui and Bullet/Bullet, makes his series directorial debut on this project. E&H production is producing the anime, with UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS overseeing the project overall.
Shigeru Murakoshi (Zombie Land Saga, Ninja Kamui, Apocalypse Hotel) is handling series scripts. Satomi Watabe (Escha Chron, Aikatsu Friends!) is designing the characters. Music is composed by Yuki Kajiura, Takumi Ozawa, and Shiho Terada.

Synopsis
Magic Knight Rayearth follows three high school girls — Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu — who are magically transported from a class trip to Tokyo Tower into the fantasy world of Cephiro. There, the mage Clef informs them that the world is collapsing after the priest Zagato kidnapped Princess Emeraude, whose prayers sustain Cephiro. Granted magical powers as the Magic Knights, the three must learn to fight together and save the dying world.
Background
CLAMP serialized the Magic Knight Rayearth manga in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine from 1993 to 1996, spanning six volumes. The manga previously inspired two TV anime seasons — the first airing from October 1994 to March 1995, and Magic Knight Rayearth 2 from April to November 1995 — as well as a three-episode OVA titled Rayearth in 1997. Discotek Media holds the current North American license for the TV series, releasing a complete DVD and Blu-ray collection in 2017.
