The brand-new Resident Evil (バイオハザード) film is set to open across Japanese cinemas on October 9, 2026, and a Japanese-dubbed version has now been confirmed. The dub stars Shimono Hiro as protagonist Brian and Hayami Saori as his girlfriend Michelle — a casting announcement accompanied by the release of a Japanese-dub trailer featuring Shimono’s signature screams.

An Ordinary Man in the Unluckiest Night in History

The film is a completely fresh take on the survival-horror franchise that was born in Japan in 1996 and celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Rather than a trained soldier or superhero, the lead character Brian is a run-of-the-mill medical courier whose latest delivery happens to be destined for Raccoon City. With no combat skills to speak of, his only options are to scream, run, and somehow survive what the story bills as the most terrifying — and most unlucky — night in human history.

Shimono Hiro as Brian

Shimono Hiro, best known as Zenitsu Agatsuma in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Connie Springer in Attack on Titan — and most recently Jimmy Olsen in the Japanese dub of Superman (2025) — takes on the role of Brian. He commented that the film is “scarier and more fun than anyone could imagine,” adding that in all his years of voice acting, “there haven’t been many roles where the character goes through this much terror.” During recording sessions, he said he unleashed “every kind of scream and frightened yelp a human being is capable of,” and signed off his comment with a playful warning: “After 90 minutes, your life is not guaranteed.”

Hayami Saori as Michelle

Hayami Saori — known to anime fans as Yor Forger in SPY×FAMILY and Shinobu Kocho in Demon Slayer — voices Michelle, Brian’s girlfriend who communicates with him entirely over the phone throughout the film. The two share a small but meaningful misunderstanding, and Michelle’s voice becomes the reason Brian keeps pushing forward even in the depths of despair.

Hayami described Michelle as “the person he wants to survive and come back to — but also someone who, at times, adds to the pressure he’s under.” She also revealed she has been a fan of the Resident Evil series since elementary school, recalling how she borrowed Resident Evil 4 and kept hitting “You are dead” in the early stages, eventually settling into being a spectator rather than a player. “I never imagined I’d one day be part of it as a voice actress,” she said.
