The official Yani Neko anime account on X has unveiled support illustrations for episodes 5 and 6, featuring guest artwork from two celebrated manga creators: Sakuraba Koharu, the author of Minamike, and Karigi Mari, the author of Imouto wa Shitteiru. The crossover has sent fans of both series into an enthusiastic frenzy online.
About Yani Neko
Yani Neko is based on the manga by Nyannyan Factory, serialized in Kodansha’s Young Magazine. Set in a world where humans and beastpeople coexist, the story follows Yani Neko — a cigarette-smoking, utterly lazy beastperson cat with no money, no life skills, and no manners to speak of. Despite being grimy, idle, and irredeemable, Yani Neko and friends somehow manage to live surprisingly fulfilling days. The manga became a viral hit on social media before earning a TV anime adaptation. The anime has been airing since July 2, 2026, on TOKYO MX, BS11, and AT-X.
Episode 5 Illustration: Sakuraba Koharu (Minamike)
The support illustration for episode 5, which aired on July 30, 2026, was drawn by Minamike creator Sakuraba Koharu. The official account announced it with the caption: “Support illustration has arrived! Episode 5 features… #SakurabaKoharu sensei! (manga: Minamike).”
The illustration depicts Yani-ko with a cigarette dangling from her mouth while holding a garbage bag. Fans flooded the comments with reactions such as “Yani Neko in the Minamike world!”, “I never thought these two universes would ever cross paths lol,” and “Sakuraba-san’s Yani Neko is way too cute!!!” One particularly popular observation was the detail of a tail hole in the character’s underwear, which drew widespread delight.
Episode 6 Illustration: Karigi Mari (Imouto wa Shitteiru)
For episode 6, which aired on August 13, 2026, Imouto wa Shitteiru creator Karigi Mari contributed the support illustration. The artwork shows the cast crammed inside a cigarette box, gleefully attempting to light an enormous cigarette.
