The manga adaptation of Kyoto Kamigamo, Kamikakushi no Iinazuke (京都上賀茂、神隠しの許嫁) launched its first volume on July 13, published by Shōnen Gahōsha. The series is a comicalization of the novel of the same name by Yatani Tsumugu, with artwork by Mochitsuki Haruka.
Story
The protagonist, Hitomi Benio, is a college student who carries a mysterious gap in her memory — at the age of four, she vanished without a trace in what appeared to be a kamikakushi (spiriting away), and she has never been able to recall what happened that day.
The story is set in motion when Benio stumbles upon a Western-style umbrella at Chishakuin temple in Kyoto. The moment she picks it up, a strikingly handsome white-haired man appears before her. Though she has no memory of him, she is overcome by an inexplicable sense of familiarity — and the feeling that “he came to take me home.”
What unfolds is a Japanese-style ayakashi love story built around a temporary engagement, as Benio strives to recover the memories stolen from her childhood against the atmospheric backdrop of Kyoto.
