Sanrio fans have a new must-have accessory to look forward to. The PUKUMARU (ぷくまる) mini-pouch series — built around the concept of “squeeze it and feel better” — has launched a brand-new Sanrio Characters collection. The pouches went on sale via online stores in July 2026, with a gradual rollout to gift and variety shops across Japan to follow.
What Is PUKUMARU?
PUKUMARU pouches are designed with an irresistibly soft, squishy texture that is meant to melt stress away the moment you hold one. Each Sanrio character is rendered in a gentle, warm-hearted style unique to the series. The pouches are compact enough to double as bag charms, and their zippered interiors are practical enough to store small items such as earphones, lip balm, or other everyday accessories.

The collection covers eight beloved Sanrio characters:
- Hello Kitty
- Cinnamoroll
- My Melody
- Kuromi
- Pompompurin
- Usahana
- Pochacco
- Hangyodon
Each design stays true to the character’s signature look while being reimagined in PUKUMARU’s signature cosy, rounded aesthetic.
Sanrio Character Taisho 2026 Results
The timing of the launch coincides with a landmark year for Sanrio fandom. The 2026 Sanrio Character Taisho popularity poll drew a record-breaking 70,647,379 total votes — up 112 percent year-on-year and the highest tally in the event’s history.
Pompompurin claimed first place, collecting over seven million votes during its 30th-anniversary year to secure back-to-back championships and its fifth overall title. The rest of the top five were:
- 2nd: Cinnamoroll (who led the first interim ranking)
- 3rd: Pochacco
- 4th: Kuromi
- 5th: Hello Kitty
The PUKUMARU Sanrio Characters collection is available now through online retailers, with in-store availability at variety shops nationwide rolling out from July 2026 onwards.
