Fans of SLAM DUNK have something exciting to look forward to: an official free outdoor screening of THE FIRST SLAM DUNK has been announced for August 29–30, 2026 at Tokyo Metropolitan Meiji Park (都立明治公園).
About the Film
SLAM DUNK is a basketball manga by Takehiko Inoue that ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from issue 42 of 1990 through issue 27 of 1996. The series follows the growth of high school basketball players and has sold over 120 million copies in Japan alone.
THE FIRST SLAM DUNK opened in Japanese cinemas on December 3, 2022, with Inoue himself serving as both screenwriter and director. The film went on to gross over 15.5 billion yen at the Japanese box office, making it the No. 1 highest-grossing film in Japan for 2023 — domestic and foreign titles combined.
Event Details
The film’s official channels announced that alongside the screening, a “Basketball Ennichi (バスケエンニチ)” — a basketball-themed festival — will be held in the park from noon on both days, giving attendees a chance to shoot hoops before the movie begins. The organizers are billing the event as the perfect way to cap off the summer holidays of 2026 with family and friends.
