The production team behind Gekijouban Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bouhi no Hihou (The Apothecary Diaries: The Treasure of the Deceased Consort) has released character PVs for two key figures — Ruoqing (若晴), a consort who died in the rear palace five years ago, and Yinshan (銀山), her former head lady-in-waiting — along with the voice cast for both roles.
Cast Announcements
Veteran voice actress Sawashiro Miyuki will portray Ruoqing, a mid-ranking consort who passed away in the rear palace five years before the story’s present day. Mikami Ai — who is set to star as the heroine of NHK’s morning drama Kaze, Kaoru in the first half of 2026 — takes on the role of Yinshan, who once served Ruoqing as head lady-in-waiting and now serves Muqing of the Wei clan in the same capacity.
What the Character PV Shows
The PV is the final installment in a four-day consecutive release campaign. Its first half depicts Yinshan shielding Muqing from bullying by other children in the clan, as well as a tender scene in which she recalls Ruoqing’s fondness for a particular flower: “My lady loved this flower.” The second half shows Yinshan’s distress upon confronting Ruoqing’s remains — the consort had wished to return to her homeland five years after her death — and Maomao beginning to unravel the mystery surrounding that wish.

“I’m honoured to voice Ruoqing in the film. When I received the script, I was delighted to finally see which kanji spelled the name I’d heard in the anime. Ruoqing is someone who has already passed on. I was fortunate to record alongside Mikami Ai, who plays Yinshan. There were moments I hadn’t been able to fully interpret at home, but new choices emerged once we were in the studio together — it was a truly precious experience. As for who these women really are, I hope you’ll find the answer for yourselves in the theatre.”

“I was already a fan of the TV series, so I was genuinely thrilled when I found out I’d been cast. What I love most about Kusuriya no Hitorigoto is how intricately it portrays not just the mysteries, but the evolving relationship between Maomao and Jinshi, and the deeply human drama of each individual character. Because I love this work so much, I was nervous about whether I could do it justice — but I gave it everything I had. Yinshan appears mysterious at first glance, but she’s a strong, principled woman who quietly carries a deep loneliness. Playing off Yuuki Aoi as Maomao and Sawashiro Miyuki as Ruoqing helped me draw out Yinshan’s emotions far more deeply. This film is a grand-scale mystery that I’m certain will be enjoyed by anime fans, novel readers, and newcomers alike.”
Special Broadcast on October 22
On October 22 at 20:00 JST, TOHO animation’s YouTube channel will stream a special programme marking the anime’s third broadcast anniversary and revealing the latest film information. Yuuki Aoi (Maomao) and Otsuka Yoshihisa (Jinshi) will appear to unveil the full trailer, key visual, and theme song artist.
