The Japanese-localized version of the TV anime “dreamland” is set to premiere on October 17, 2026, airing on ABCテレビ and the TV Asahi network’s “ANiMAZiNG!!!” block every Saturday at 26:00. To mark the occasion, renowned manga artists Hiro Mashima and Yusuke Murata have shared congratulatory comments — both of whom share a long personal friendship with the series’ French creator, Reno Lemaire.
A Decade-Long Friendship with the Creator
Both Mashima and Murata have cultivated close ties with Reno Lemaire, the French manga artist behind the original “dreamland” comic. Mashima in particular has known Reno for over ten years, describing an immediate connection from their very first meeting.
Hiro Mashima’s Comment
“Congratulations on the anime adaptation of ‘Dreamland.’ I’m really looking forward to it. Reno is French, yet he draws manga in the Japanese style — not American comics, not bande dessinée, but shōnen manga. The panel layouts, the pacing — it’s unmistakably Japanese manga. And layered on top of that is a distinctly European artistry and sensibility. It’s incredible. I met Reno over ten years ago, and we hit it off immediately. We’ve stayed friends ever since. He has deep respect for Japanese manga and always talks about it with such joy. Dreamland is truly the work of his life — compelling characters, a story full of surprises. I’m certain it will resonate with Japanese audiences. Let’s enjoy it together! Here we go, Dreamland!”
Yusuke Murata’s Comment
“Reading this manga, I was certain: ‘This was written by a French “friend” who, during his most impressionable years, fell in love with the same works we did and breathed them in with all his heart!’ I can’t take my eyes off Terence and his friends’ adventures!”
